I’ve decided that after all I have come across, I can no longer limit myself to the intolerance, racism, and prejudices I see in Texas. Yes, that is where I started; I thought I could focus on my environment. I forgot the web makes my environment bigger. Readers are sending me sites like the one below nearly every day. I can’t keep up. Still, check out Missouri’s finest. While you are at it, check out the rhetoric and the grammar. They have so much to be proud of–makes me want to buy one of those shirts they advertise….or not.

February is coming to a close. Soon various colleges will shut down for spring break. Hormonal stupidity will reign throughout the land. This story from CNN makes a perfect case for devoting spring break to No More Deaths. The priest at the end of the article makes a valid point. The location of the fence forces immigrants to take bigger risks. If they were concerned about lives, they would have taken that into consideration. It appears they have only one objective and can’t see the human element.

As the links on the side (under “Intolerance) shows, No More Deaths has programs designed to render aid to those people crossing the border. It’s a better way to spend spring break, and it is less expensive than wasting money on beer. The humanitarian benefits are priceless.

Same Song/Different Verse…or State (See “Son of in the News..” below.

It would appear that the cameras on the border are doing a world of good for those who supply the cameras. Now, in Texas, grant money from Governor Good-Hair has been whizzed away. They had such lofty hopes (over 1,000 calls about immigrants), but all that money led to 3–yes three–arrests. Just as before, let’s do the math. How much more money will be wasted? Can anyone suggest a better cause for the grant money?

This is a mixed bag of complaints. Some are about texting abbreviations while others expertly postulate about grammar. Others, and here is where I come in, express frustration at immigrants who “refuse” to learn English while living in the US.

Obviously, the assumption is such an exaggeration that it doesn’t deserve analysis; most immigrants don’t have as easy a life as the posters. Many of the posters claim that they would learn the language of any country they moved to. I wonder if they understand how difficult that can be while supporting a family (or not) and how they would cope/tolerate with the bigotry they might receive from the native speakers.

Like I said in the beginning, bigotry is everywhere. Yes, Texas has its own brand, but it is everywhere. Watch the video, but watch it all the way through. I know what I would do.

At the Movies…….

I’d like to take a moment and recommend a couple of movies. It’s likely anybody who passes by here will have seen, Lone Star. Still, I bring it up as a classic worthy of renting during the holidays….or just after them, anyway. The other film was directed by Tommy Lee Jones from a Guillermo Arriaga script. The characters carry this film. If I didn’t know better, I’d swear The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada was a Cohen brothers film.

Now here’s some interesting news

. I guess Texas needs a longer wall than they thought. Unfortunately, I’m betting they find enough of those “patriot” (rhymes with idiot) Minute Men to “man” the borders. They have met the enemy, and he is Yankee’s. I’m going to find the Yankee version of the Mariposa Reinternment Center and give myself up. ;P

These same MM (Rinches-wannabe’s) will have a hard time processing the idea that violence is only along the border with Mexico. If people would pay attention to the news, they would know that drug violence and and acts of random violence are found within their borders, not limited to other countries.

I should point out that the truck described in this article is not the one I posted in my first blog below. While both drivers may be disturbed individuals, they differ in that one perpetrates random violence, the other is just bigoted.
